Clearasil sculpture

For my sculpture, which was made out of Porcelain, I chose to sculpt my Clearasil container that I had for my blue collection. I chose to sculpt this because I had made a sculpture in the past, which has the same technique of making the Clearasil container. I overall enjoyed making this form probably because I had previously sculpted a form in the past so I know what techniques and tools to use in order to make it.
However I found it rather difficult to work with porcelain but that’s because porcelain has less moisture then clay, which makes it difficult to work with. I also found it difficult to fill in any dents on the form because every time I added porcelain to it I added too much which resulted in me trying to take away the right amount, which proved to be quite difficult. I am happy with the outcome because I had more confidence in making it and what tools to use as well.

Plaster mold

Here is my first plaster mold, which consists of my collected blue items from my summer project. Here I wanted to create a pristine composition so it looks balanced in a neat way. The items I have chosen have a lot of texture, which adds a lot of detail on the plaster mold. Also because the items are asymmetrical it creates continues pattern. My favorite item is the peg because the outcome is nice and clear which means I can see the detail much better. The colour of the red clay left on the plaster mold makes the mold itself look old and almost like a fossil as well.

Blue heinz Tomato Ketchup

I have selected a piece of artwork by Caio Machado. I chose to critique this image because it relates to the project that I am doing now, which is called Museum of Colour. I have decided to choose objects that started as red in color then turn them into blue. But by doing this it changes the perspective on how people see it. I find this piece of artwork to be overwhelming but appealing at the same time. The fact that he has changed the colour of the ketchup changes how I feel towards it. The red feels threatening, where as the blue feels relaxing and makes me feel safe.
I believe he wanted us to feel safe rather than sacred because red is a common colour used in warning signs, fire engines, fire extinguisher etc. and we see it everyday and so by changing the colour he is wanting us to feel safe and relaxed.
