Ceramic cakes

These here are my final outcomes for my project homage which was mainly created by using the process coil building. I really enjoyed creating these outcomes because when I had finished them it reminded me of opening my oven at home and seeing my cakes turn out great and it felt like I was at home baking in my kitchen. Out of the outcomes the muffin is by far my favourite and I crafted this by using the coil building process because it was an easy process to do. The colour glazes I chose were a red glaze for the cherry a pink rum glaze for the icing and a white matt glaze for the container. However for the final coating I used the pink rum by accident because both glazes are the same colour when there not fired and I got them mixed up.  Even though I used the wrong glaze the Muffin itself is bright and vibrant and the cherry makes it stand out so much more.
For the recipe pages I wanted to illustrate the process on how I made a muffin but not how I made it in ceramics because I wanted it look like it had that homemade feel to it. This was a simple process but I wanted to make sure that the writing was neat and could be clearly read. Once it was fired I wanted to make the writing stand out and that it was easily seen so I used a manganese oxide for this, once I was fired a second time I felt that it wasn’t completed yet so I finally used a clear glaze so that it would be part of the muffin because that was glazed.
After these outcomes I wanted to craft smaller objects and I spend a lot of time on these cupcakes because I wanted try and make sure they were all the same size however most of them aren’t because I positioned the coils in the wrong places. For the icing I used a white slip and just let it casually run down the cupcake to make resemble more of a homemade feel. Overall I am pleased with the outcomes they are well crafted and I made sure each step was done correctly.
